Brilliant article and podcast conversation. Thank you! So many points were superbly articulated in a way I have never heard before. My background is primarily in postgraduate medical education. I also have a certificate in alternate dispute resolution and have cofacilitated (with a mediation lawyer) the resolution of a number of conflicts in Canadian health care teams. With this experience, I'd suggest an additional area that needs to be part of the conversation has to do with the high prevalence of personality traits on teams that are in conflict or experiencing incivility. We have done the type of individual coaching you talked about in the podcast. But an additional approach we've taken has been to equip the other members of the team with the communication skills, scripts, insights etc they need to co-exist with certain behaviours that are not amendable to coaching.
